2015 Plot Size Option: 12.5’ x 50’ square garden plot
Season Fee: $ 35.00
Season: April 15th – November 1st
Garden Hours: Dawn to Dusk
It is understood that the plot location choices are on a first come first serve basis and that the fee is to cover the initial plowing and preparation of the site in the spring for all growers. Further rototilling and care of garden plots will be the responsibility of individual growers thereafter. The Community Garden needs to be able to be worked up as a whole in the fall for ease of planting the fall’s cover crop. Any gardeners who want to create raised beds should consider this when making their plans and the effects of excess tillage on the soil structure.
Our Goal:
Our goal is to provide individuals in our community with the opportunity to work together to produce an ecologically sound and natural garden. Mill Farm Community Gardens is committed to organic and sustainable farming practices and promoting local agriculture in our community and New Hampshire.

Gardening Guidelines:
Length of Contract:
- Organic Gardening practices must be followed: no petrochemicals; synthetic fertilizers; herbicides, or pesticides shall be used. The soil has been tested and the necessary nutrients have been added to create a rich, good quality soil for growing. In addition, there will be a truckload of compost delivered which will be available for all gardeners to use.
- Gardeners are obligated to keep their plot and common areas clean, free of weeds, and well maintained to foster a good public image.
- Gardeners are required to actively garden in their plot, and gardeners are responsible for caring for the plot, watering, fertilizing, soil amendments, and removing dead/dying or diseased plants and rotting vegetables. Gardeners are responsible for maintaining the appearance of their plot and the 2-foot bordering pathways. Paths may be maintained by rototilling, mowing &/or mulching.
- If the gardener’s plot becomes unkempt at any time, there will be a two-week notice to clean it up. If it remains non-compliant, it will be reassigned. Gardeners will receive a one time courtesy notification from Mill Farm Community Gardens and Paula Tate-Moreau.
- If the gardener’s plot must be given up for any reason, Paula Tate-Moreau (603.659.4903) should be notified.
- If gardeners have excess produce, Mill Farm Community Gardens encourages them to consider donating said produce to a local food pantry or soup kitchen.
- Gardeners are obligated to maintain the grounds by keeping litter picked up. Carry out what you carry in.
- Gardeners must follow the organic guidelines for what can be added to the compost bin on site and when they are able to use the compost to amend soil.
- Water is available for gardeners from the well for spot watering; gardeners should provide their own watering cans. The water access is on the ground outside of the fence, on the driveway side of the garden. The fitting will accommodate a standard garden hose. If the gardeners prefer this option, they must supply their own hoses. Sprinklers are not allowed.
- You may not take fruits or vegetables or flowers or anything else grown from plots other than your own.
- Produce must be harvested in a timely manner. If unable to pick vegetables, please notify Paula Tate-Moreau that the plot needs to be harvested and donated to the local food bank.
- If the vegetables in the gardener’s plot are un-harvested, Mill Farm Community Gardens has permission to harvest and donate them unless otherwise communicated (i.e. saving seed).
- Gardeners are forbidden to grow noxious weeds, vegetables vines or fruit that will interfere with other gardeners’ enjoyment of their gardening experience.
- Any pets are subject to initial review by Paula Tate-Moreau.
- Gardeners are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren to the garden. It is the gardener’s responsibility to keep children focused on garden activities.
- Small children &/or pets must have ‘Adult Supervision’ at all times due to garden’s close proximity to Rt. 4 and Mill Road.
- No Smoking is allowed on Mill Farm Community Garden’s premises.
- Tobacco plants or products are not allowed on site. Tobacco carries the mosaic virus that is easily transmitted to other plants and kills them.
- Any problems, vandalism or damage should be reported Paula Tate-Moreau.
- There will be drinking water available on-site, as the water from the well is suitable for drinking.
- Upon application review, all gardeners will be provided with access to a shed on premises where all gardening equipment may be stored. Keys must be returned at the end of the season. The perimeter of the garden is fenced. Gates are on the driveway side of the garden. Please make sure to close gates before leaving the property. If anyone in the group would like to put up any type of additional fence or border in the plot they are renting, this can be taken into consideration depending upon the circumstances.
Length of Contract:
- Rental term is from April 15th to November 1st.
- It is a priority to be able to get a cover crop on the field for the winter. Any extensions in season length will have to work around cover crop plans.
